Music Marketing Podcast - Every Wednesday at 9pm Eastern

The Music Marketing [com] Podcast has a new time. We're on every Wednesday at 9pm Eastern (6pm Pacific).

You can listen live at MusicMarketingPodcast.com or call (347) 637-2654 if you want to talk to me.

This is a lo-fi way for me to personally connect with indie musicians and songwriters on a regular basis, since my schedule is full and I rarely take on new clients.

So if you want my advice on your music marketing... Call me Wednesdays at 9pm Eastern (6pm Pacific) at (347) 637-2654.

It happens every week, so mark it on your calendar now!

New LIVE Music Business Podcast - Call Me Tonight (and Every Week)

I'm starting a new music business podcast tonight.  It's weekly, it's live, and you'll be able to call in and talk to me directly.

This will be different from the syndicated radio show I host, Music Business Radio.  If you're interested in hearing from top music business executives, including major label presidents, producers, and music publishers, make sure you get the Music Business Radio podcast.

I just put up an interview with one of the founders of Chicago (the band, not the city) and the next episode, which will be available within the next few days, is with Taylor Swift's producer, Nathan Chapman.  That's the quality of people we have on...

We have these people review music you send in, by the way.  If you haven't already done so, send in a CD and bio.

Send CD and bio to:

Tuned In Broadcasting, Inc.
ATTN: Music Business Radio
1310 Clinton St. Suite 200
Nashville, TN 37203

It's a great show, so get me your music and get the Music Business Radio podcast, so you never miss an episode. I also encourage you to check out this new thing I'm doing with the new podcast though.  Because it's live, I'll be able to cover the latest music business news and how it relates to you.  And because it's online only, we'll be able to go a bit deeper when it comes to things that will help you to sell more music, get more people to your shows, and make more money in the music business.  You'll also be able to call in and talk to me directly.

First episode is TONIGHT at Midnight Eastern (9pm Pacific) and you can listen in via the player below.  If you want to talk to me, call (347) 637-2654.  If you're seeing this after that time, you'll be able to listen to a replay.

Tonight's episode will be an introduction to the new show, more information on why I'm doing it, and audience calls on the topic of show/format suggestions.  I hope you'll make it.

New Book for Musicians - What Topics Should I Cover?

About ten years ago, I released a book called "How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent)."  The book was co-authored by me and a musician doing just that.  It gave specific advice from both a musician and music industry perspective.

Since then, I've released several books, all of which would help people in the music business, but with the exception of a workbook and a few audio books, none was really targeted for musicians or the music business specifically.

So I've decided it's time to do another one, just for you.

This book is not an updated version of "How I Make $100,000/year in the Music Business (Without a Record Label, Manager, or Booking Agent)."  It's something brand new that I've started from scratch.  Because of this, I've got a wide open field as to where it can go.

And that's why question for you...

What would the ultimate book for indie musicians have in it?

Leave your suggestions, comments, and thoughts below.  Again, think about the ultimate book for indie musicians.  Throw out your wish list.

I've already started on this project, so let me know what you want to see right now.  I've got a time line to get this thing out within a couple of months, so things are going to go fast.  Please get on the feed for updates and information on how you'll be able to get a copy as well as some cool freebies to show you how to sell more music, get more people to your shows, and make more money in the music business.

Behind the Scenes Tour of Music Business Radio - You're Invited!

Ever since the 100th Episode Party for Music Business Radio, I've thought it would be cool to do something similar in terms of networking, but also smaller, so that people could really get to know each other.  Original plan was to start that right away, but it didn't happen.  Add that to the failure list... ;)

Had a meeting with Dan (Engineer) and Gary (Producer) yesterday and we decided to go for it.

Setting the date and venue now.  Should have something nailed down within a day or two.  Subscribe to the feed to make sure you announce it.

Normally, I wouldn't announce anything until it was ready to go, but we want your suggestions on what you'd like to see in a live event, so we can make those things happen.  We plan for this to be a recurring thing and the first one will feature a "behind the scenes" tour of the Music Business Radio studios.

What else would you be into?  Industry speakers?  Networking?  Live demo reviews?

Let us know below...

Twitter - You Can Learn A Lot About People...

I find Twitter pretty amazing in that people think the world cares (and needs to know) about every little aspect of their lives.

It's not uncommon to see things like...

"At red light.  Wish it would turn green."

Who cares?

From a "big picture" though, even "red light" messages will tell you a lot about somebody.  I especially find it interesting to watch musicians and others in the music business.

What's amazing to me is how little people actually get done.  If you were to look at most of them on Twitter, most spend the majority of their time eating, hanging out with friends, and responding to other people on Twitter who are eating and hanging out with friends.

It's no wonder so many musicians are broke.

Not to jump on anybody, but you can't have a certain outcome without doing an action in alignment with that outcome.  Newton's Law in action, my friends.

I get things done.  Want to know how? Check out my Twitter page and follow me.  All this week, I'll be sending updates for those who are interested in an example of a daily routine that takes care of business.  Just to keep it interesting, when possible, I'll post photos.

Some of what I do will probably surprise you.  Next week, I'll post analysis and explain it all.

So follow me on Twitter and let's get going.

How to Get Access to Major Labels and Film/TV Music Supervisors - for a YEAR...

It's time to see who has been paying attention to my free video course on film and TV music licensing...  If you have, you could win one of THREE full scholarships I am giving to my new site for musicians and songwriters, IndieMusician.com.

This site officially launches THIS TUESDAY at 11:11am (Eastern) and will feature listings from people who are looking for your music including:

  • Major Labels
  • Film and Television Music Supervisors
  • Video Game Companies
  • Ad Agencies
  • and more...

In addition, members will have the opportunity to work with me, both via telephone and at a special live, in-person "bootcamp" event, at no extra charge.  The focus?  Marketing your music.  I'll personally help you to:

  • Sell more music.
  • Get more people to your shows.
  • Make more money in the music business.

My goal is to help you to create a total package, from both an artistic and marketing standpoint.

Check back THIS TUESDAY, 11/11, for more info.  Until then, get my free video course on film and TV music licensing.

Here's How to Get a One-Year Scholarship to IndieMusician.com...

Tell me the story about a new concept or technique you've learned from me, this blog, and my free videos.  Let me know how you've implemented everything and post the results that you've achieved.

This isn't necessarily about who made the most money or got a record deal (although that's not the worst thing that can happen). It's about taking what you've learned, putting it into action, and getting results.

It could be something as simple as having "the talk" with your band or changing up how you send out demo packages.  Or maybe it's a shift in your mindset that has enabled you to go from making $100 per gig to over $2000.

I will be judging the entries personally, choosing the three winners myself... and announcing them on Monday.

The winners will be announced THIS Monday, November 10th... and hopefully you'll be one of them!

So tell me your "MusicMarketing.com Implementation Success Story" - and good luck winning one of the three scholarships to my new site for musicians and songwriters, IndieMusician.com.

NOTE: Put your story in the "comments" box below, and only submit your story ONCE (it will be individually reviewed before being posted, and won't show up immediately).

Most Musicians Have This Problem... Do You?

NOTE: This is an important post and it's in your best interest to spend the next 5-6 minutes and read every line of it.  It's about how most musicians are broke and why it doesn't have to be that way for you.

You've got some great music.  You want the world to hear it.

But you're being stopped in your tracks, because you've got no money.  It's frustrating.   Simply put, this lack of money is limiting you from being able to reach the people that want to hear your music.

And it gets even more painful... Not only do you need money to be able to reach music fans, the companies that have money to invest in you, the major labels, publishing companies, and managers, want to see that you're making money before they'll even consider talking to you.

It's a Catch 22.  But here's the good news.

You no longer have to feel this way.  I can help you.

Before I tell you exactly how, let's look at the facts...

FACT: If you want to be taken seriously as a professional musician, you must prove to the people in music industry that you can make money with your music.

But as daunting as that sounds, you don't have to worry...  I'll help you prove that your music is viable and makes money.

Whether you're idea of "making it" is getting a major label record deal or simply being able to play a gig at your local music venue, you'll never do either one if you can't demonstrate your ability to make money in the music business.

Sure, people who work in this industry, whether record label executives or booking agents, love music, but they're in business...and it takes money to stay in business.  Regardless of how much they love your music, there is only so much they can do for you, if you're not making money.

But if you are making money, they can do a lot for you...

When you've proven to the industry that you have music people will buy, a show people will come to, and a real business that makes money, they'll knock down your door with:

  • record deals
  • publishing contracts
  • big budgets for promotion
  • tour support
  • everything it takes to get your music to the masses

FACT: A "good song" isn't enough anymore.

If you aren't making money with your music, nobody will pay attention to you.  This industry isn't the same as it was even five years ago.  Labels, management companies, and publishers are looking for "proven" product that they know they'll make money with.

Simply put, before major labels, publishing companies, or anybody else in the music industry will take your seriously, these companies want to know what you've got will sell.

That's where I come in...

FACT: I can help you make money with your music.

Since 1995, I've worked with hundreds of bands, record labels, and management companies to increase profit centers, sell more music, and make more money on everything that they do.  And I can help you find this "hidden money" within your music business, too.

Yes, the economy sucks right now,
but musicians are still making money...

Are you one of them?  You can be!

We've all heard the media reports about how the economy sucks.  Maybe for some people, but if you look back in history, during The Great Depression, the entertainment business, especially movies and music were the ONLY industries to make money.

FACT: Even when people are dead broke, they spend money on entertainment.

The question is?  Are you taking advantage of all this money?  Probably not.

Most musicians I work with are already doing the work they need to do, they're just not cashing in on things.  There is "hidden money" on the table.

Have you ever checked the pockets of a jacket you haven't worn in a while, only to find a $20 bill?   That's the feeling you'll get when I discover the "hidden money" in your music business.

I can help you build your music business into something that makes money...

- on every show you play...
- on every album you release...
- on everything you do...

If you've got the music and you're working to promote it, but seem to be getting nowhere, I can help you "tweak" a few things to get you on the right track...and making the kind of money that will get you major label attention.

FACT: You're not making as much money with your music as you should be.

What I mean by that isn't that you're lazy or that the world is "unfair" or something; it's that you're not taking advantage of money-making opportunities that are right in front of your face...right now.  Perhaps this is because you're not sure how to go about taking advantage of these opportunities.  Or maybe you don't know that they even exist.

Regardless, you're losing a lot of money right now...and I can help you take care of that problem, with a simple phone call.

I want to help you "plug the leaks" in your system.  I want to help you make sure you're generating the most amount of money you possible can and make sure major labels, publishing companies, and managers don't pass you over, simply because you need help with your music marketing.

How it works...

The process is simple...

1. You book time with me.  See below for information on how to do that.

2. You fill out a quick "intake" form with information about what you're doing to market your music and what you think you need help with.

3. We schedule an appointment that works for both of us.

4. I get on the phone with you and tell you how to fix your music marketing problems.

5. You sell more music, get more people to your shows, and make more money in the music business.

FACT: If you want to get on the phone and personally work with me one-on-one, this will be your only opportunity.  I will not be making this offer again...ever.

I love working with musicians and songwriters one-on-one, where I can really "go deep" with them and come up with new ways for them to make money with their music, increase fans, get more web traffic, and otherwise live their dreams.  The problem I have is finding the time to do it!

Unfortunately, I can't help everybody.

You see, my time to work one-on-one with people is extremely limited.  As I've gotten more involved with broadcasting and publishing, I've had to cut way back on the amount of clients that I personally work with.

I don't feel too guilty... I've written plenty of books on the music business, which you can always pick up on Amazon for around $15.  And you can listen to my radio show weekly, of course.

But for those who really want to "go big" and get huge results, working with me personally is the best way for me to help you to:

  • Get more people to your shows.
  • Sell more music.
  • Make more money in the music business.

BOTTOM LINE: I WILL HELP YOU MAKE MORE MONEY WITH YOUR MUSIC.

FACT: If I can't help you to find AT LEAST two new streams of income for your music within the hour we spend together, I'll refund your money.

And while we're on the subject of money, let's talk about how much an hour with me will cost you.  Depending on your situation, it will cost you one of two things...

If you're signed to a major label or have a deal with a major publishing company, your rate is $335.  If you've sold over 100,000 records, your rate is $335.  Call my office at 615-460-9595 to arrange payment and schedule an appointment.

If you're an independent artist or songwriter, your rate is only $127, but there are a few rules...

1. You pay upfront.  I only have 10 slots available, so I need you to commit to one of them now.  Assuming there are slots still available, a payment button is below.  Once you pay, my assistant will contact you about scheduling an appointment with me at a time the is convenient for both of us.

2. I want to talk to you by the end of October.  Let's not drag this out.  If you're not ready for my help now, please leave the space open for somebody who is.

3. This special rate is for phone only.  I'll call you on my dime, regardless of where you are in the world.  And yes, this applies to you, even if you're here with me in Nashville.

4. This special rate is for one-on-one consulting with independent musicians and songwriters.  "One-on-one" means YOU talk to ME.  If you want me to work with your entire band, your manager, your wife, your booking agent, or anybody else, call my office at 615-460-9595 and talk to my assistant.

I have 10 "one-on-one" slots available and this is the very last time I will make this offer...ever.  If you want to personally work with me in this way, do it now...

Why?  I'm simply too busy with my radio show, publishing company, books, and other projects to do one-on-one consulting at this price. In a nutshell, I can reach more people and make more money elsewhere.

So why am I doing one-on-one music marketing help for so little?  It's actually quite selfish...

Working with independent musicians and songwriters helps to keep my ear to the street.  When we can talk personally, I get a better understanding of what it is you're trying to accomplish...and solutions which I develop for you eventually end up in the books I write and seminars I give.

I'm in Nashville, so I see independent musicians and songwriters all the time...and we often do things like this networking party, which got me in front of over dozens of people in one evening.

In short, I need material for events like these. :)

If you feel $127 is too much for me to personally get on the phone with you, really dig in to what you're doing, come up with a custom solution for your marketing problems, as well as show you the "hidden money" in your music business, that's fine.  I hope that you'll get a free subscription to this blog, listen to Music Business Radio, and take advantage of what I'm giving you for nothing.

But if you're ready for me to personally take your current music marketing situation, finding all the holes in it, and help you attract the attention of major labels, publishing companies, and managers, all while making money doing what you love, let's go.

Remember, this is the last time I plan to do it...ever.  If you're unsigned and you want to work with me personally, you must do it now.

If you want to be one of the very few who gets this opportunity, here's your chance...

Work with me one-on-one for only $127...

SOLD OUT - THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST

Want to be notified of future opportunities to work with me?  Click here.

One more thing...

Chances are, because you're here, that you know who I am and you've read at least this blog before.  And chances are, you've probably read my books on music marketing and listened to my syndicated radio show, Music Business Radio. But if you somehow happened to stumble upon this site and have no idea who I am or what I do, you might want to take a couple of minutes to read about me on Wikipedia, before you decide to work with me.

Know who I am and what I can do for you already?  Good. I'm looking forward to working with you. :)
