In January 2011, I announced I was working on a new book on the music business. The plan was for me to put a few "big ideas" on paper, maybe 20,000 words, and get it out within a month.
That didn't happen.
What did happen is that, once I brought in an editor to help me, things got more and more complicated.
Over the past few months, I've written (and rewritten...a few times) over 100,000 words. The final edition of the book will be around 80,000 words. I'll also be releasing other material from this project, including interviews with successful musicians and music business professionals, shortly thereafter.
The book is called "$100,000 Musician" and it's a roadmap that will teach you how to become just that.
As a sidenote, the original title for the book was "Million-Dollar Musician" because I like the alliteration and I believe the information within is powerful enough to make that happen for you. With thousands of people reading this blog though, I didn't want some thinking, "That's impossible!" and missing out because they wrote it off. So I dropped down to a number more people will be able to get their heads around.
The information is still worth a million dollars though and, if you think "Million-Dollar Musician" is a better title, feel free to add another zero. :)
By the way, just because it's worth a million dollars doesn't mean that's what it will cost you...
This book will be free. It's my way of thanking all the independent musicians who have supported this company since I founded it in 1995.
As you can see from my calendar last month (get your own here), I've been working on this project quite steadily. Because of this, I expect it to be released sometime this month.
For real this time.

Great to hear that the book is finally coming out! I must thank you for all of the priceless advice you have presented on this blog; it has really helped me at this critical time when I am just entering the industry. Keep up the good work!
