Here is an example of one...
U2 came through Nashville over the weekend. During the show, Bono pulled a guy out of the audience and let him play "All I Want Is You" on his guitar. Then he gave him the guitar.
Needless to say, if you can do something that gets this kind of reaction at one of your shows, you should! :)

For some reason, I doubt it was actually spontaneous. They probably planned it beforehand. But as long as it creates the perception of spontaneity , that's all that really matters right?

They've pulled people on stage several times over the years, so I don't know that "spontaneous" is the correct word, but it apparently wasn't planned. The guy had a sign that said "Blind Guitarist" or something, which I guess set the stage for everything.
You are right though-- as long as it creates the perception of spontaneity, it's very powerful. I think that's what ALL good performances do. Make it look like you just walked out on stage and made it happen like that, but everything from the music, to the lights, to the stage moves, has been planned, for the most part.

If I were that fan in the audience who was asked by this artist to play his guitar on stage and was given his guitar afterwards, I might not be able to sleep at night when I'm home, overjoy! LOL!
