Dolly Parton makes me proud to be from Tennessee. Not only is she amazing at both music and business, she is a total class act.
Any musician interested in establishing a rock-solid, long career, should really study what she's done and use it as a blueprint.
I suggest taking a look at her entry in Wikipedia and checking out the video below for starters...
More videos from Dolly...Are there any artists you feel handle business well and also do a good job of managing relationships with fans? Post 'em below!
I grew up with Dolly's music! She is not only a great artist but also an incredible person. Thanks for this post!

You're absolutely right David... I'm always telling other performers to watch Dolly to see how it's done. A total class act.
Though not a music artist, the others that I think did the job well were Walt and Roy Disney. Similarly in touch with what their fans needed (Walt) and very creative in their business dealings (Roy).

I just got back from Dollywood. I find Dolly's appearance scary and beyond plastic. While I know she is classified as a "good business woman" when I was told to go to the Dixie Stampede (another Dolly business) 90 minutes early I was bummed when I found out it was to sell me salt with a little bit of popcorn on it, and then a $4 filled with ice soda. When I found out the only way to leave Dolly wood was by exiting through the gift shop I wanted to scream, "Do you NOT have ENOUGH of my money yet?" This video is Dolly jumping on the publicity bandwagon that is Michael Jackson. Again, good business woman. Please quit messing with your face. You are scaring the children.

Yes, she's had a lot of cosmetic surgery, but that's the only thing "plastic" about her. She's one of the most authentic people in the business.
