I get a ton of emails asking about how to get music played on the radio. The answer, in short, is to convince people at radio stations, one at a time.
Below is video from a "radio meeting" with Meiko, who dropped by WRLT in Nashville in hope of getting airplay for her song, "Boys With Girlfriends."
As you'll see, it's far from glamorous, even though Meiko is on a major label. It can also be very intimidating as you're playing for people who can play you (or not) based on your performance. This day there were about 15 people in the room, all staring at her and judging.
I interviewed Meiko on Music Business Radio and we talked about the experience of radio tours and getting people on board with her music. Listen to the episode here.
Of course, this isn't the only way to get airplay... How are you getting your music on the radio? Join the discussion below...

You've got my ear....can I have yours?

Is her shirt see through? That would get your music played. :)

I found it not only intimidating but overwhelming. There are so many stations to contact.
So I took the easy way out and started my own label (about 3 months ago) not only to help out myself but help other artists.
Now I'm working on a streaming radio station. That should be up this month or sooner.
WARNING: This is the lazy but expensive alternative because I noticed just about every musician has a label, so I found it necessary to actually perform the services of label - on the Internet - PROMOTE ARTISTS.

you either mingle with the people or pay cash.

Hi,
Can you tell me a little more about how you started your own label and networking to get your music out there. My bands name is Loophole, we write and create our own music. Our drummer is 15, bass player is 18, singer is 39, and the guitarist/manager is 42, lyrics are written by the guitarist and 25yr old female. You can check us out at myspace.com/justmeandmykid There is a live video of just the drummer and guitarist at practice. I would appreciate any advice regarding how to promote our music. Within the next 2 weeks, our first album will be mixed and mastered. We have about 30 other songs that have not been included, I am very picky and wanted what I thought were the best songs. Let me know what you think of our songs and anything you can add or help us out on would be great.
Thanks
Loophole
