Katy Perry has a phone number you can call to get the latest info about her, buy tickets to her shows, interact with fans, and leave messages. Call (805) 754-2138 to check it out and hear how it works.
This is brilliant. It's a great way to collect phone numbers, which is how the majority of her fans communicate, and it's a great way to build a "personal" relationship with fans.

I think these are great. Bands used to use phone lines a lot in the 80's and early 90's. Now they're coming back again. Queensryche used one to release snippets of their new album. And I've seen at least 4 or 5 other groups using them too.

When I started in the business, we used to use them all the time
to give show information and also samples of songs. Never did
anything "interactive" like this, where fans could leave messages
though.
It's funny how things change so quickly. No telling what will happen
in a couple of years, but I do know that the "foundation" will remain
the same. Good marketing is good marketing.

I do remember these as a kid back in the early 90's. I remember OK Soda had one that you could record messages and listen to messages that were recorded by others. They were ahead of their time.
