Charlie Wilson, best known as lead singer of the Gap Band, is doing a remix contest. He's put the production elements of his new song, "Let It Out" featuring Snoop
Dogg, and is taking submissions from upcoming producers who think they have what it takes.
Every musician on here could get a lot of publicity by doing something similar.
Sample rules (borrowed from Charlie)...
- Enter the contest by creating your own version of the official
contest mix.
- Remix the song by adding new sounds, rearranging the clips, etc.
- Promote your mix - embed it in your MySpace and email a link to all of your friends. When someone marks your mix as a Favorite, that counts as a vote. The 100 mixes with the most votes will be in the running for prizes, so break out your address book and encourage your friends to vote for yours!
Easy, right? Do it and I'll give you a plug to help you get started...

I've been thinking of this idea for one or two songs from my next CD. I'm not recording until December though. I've seen other bands already do this (barenaked ladies comes to mind - the band that is :). The secret I guess is to have those that remix it to let all there friends hear their version. That's where the promo would come into place I think. Thanks for sharing.

Great concept. You see it happening more and more. To bad the deadline for this contest was May 4. But the concept of a remix contest it still great.

Hi musicians, I run http://www.remixcomps.com and we list Remix Contests, so if you do decide to run one, we'll list it for you on the site, giving you some much needed free promotion for your contest.
I must warn those of you that want to run a remix contest that if you're not a well-known artist like Charlie Wilson that choosing winners in this way may put off many remixers of this sort of contest because they would rather the best remix win on merit rather than the musician who has the most fans/friends who "voted" for them.
