I've always been fascinated by street performers. I especially love the people who are doing something different, such as playing on instruments they've made.
Regardless of the style of performance or how it's being done, I think street performers add a lot to the environment. Like this guy...
If you have stories of interesting street performances or how you're making money doing street performance, please post them below.
I was a street performer in the late 80's in Manhattan. It was a 5 man A-cappella group called Fiveplay and we sang doo-wop and modern (at the time) pop. Everything from "Blue Moon" to George Michaels' "I Want Your Sex". We mostly performed under the arch in Washington Square Park because of the great acoustics. On a busy Sunday we would pull in several hundred dollars in donations by having a friend pass around a tip bucket for us. I was going to NYU at the time so it helped pay for meals and spending money. It truly was a magical experience being able to draw a crowd instantly just with some well sung harmonies. Some of my favorite memories of performing are from those days.

I remember reading about a guy (I think he was blind) who would sit in public and practice his instrument with a "hat" down for donations. Seems he got paid to practice.
