Posted yesterday about how Barack Obama is using video games to get his message across, just like you should be doing.
He's also using viral videos...just like you should be doing. Check out this custom video I just received in my inbox...
In the United States, political discussion is hot right now, so this is just the type of video which is going get a high clickthrough as well as high pass-along rate...especially since it can be customized for the end user.
Believe it or not, something like this is easy to do. Using an oursourcing service like Scriptlance, you could get it done for a few hundred bucks...at most.
You don't have to get political to be successful with something like this, but I do suggest a "news story" format to increase interest. Comedy videos also work well.
Check out this one...
Sometime timely is best, if you can be quick. Leverage what people are talking about.
Some ideas for your band...
"[FAN NAME] Pulls Money from Stock Market, Invests in [YOUR BAND] and Stops Foreclosure"
"[YOUR BAND] Foils Terrorist Attack With the Help of [FAN NAME]"
"[FAN NAME] Discovers Santa Claus is Really [YOUR BAND] in a Red Suit"
You get the idea...
By the way, if you do something like this, let me know. Not only will I post something about it here, I'll also do a story about you on Music Business Radio.
Viral Marketing is a great way to promote your business or your product as it, if it's done correctly, will spread from person to person and through the internet like wildfire while carrying your message with it.
This isn't the only Viral Marketing surrounding Barack Obama though. He as also bought up billboards inside a video game called Burnout Paradise. This means that gamers in the United States will see billboards advertising Obama's Presidential Campaign as they drive around the virtual city.
A very clever way of reaching out to the younger voters.

Yeah, check out http://www.musicmarketing.com/2008/10/music-licensing-and-barack-obama.html to see images of the video game billboards.
Even if nobody playing the game pays attention to them, it was still a brilliant move because of all the publicity he received.

This is a great idea...I just found your blog last night. You have, by far, the best collection of innovative and practical promotion ideas for musicians I have found on the web.
I am trying to help my friend come up with marketing ideas. I will definitely drop you a line if I can get her on board with something like this!
