Mindset is the #1 reason most people fail trying to make a living a music. It's definitely not from lack of musical talent! They simply go about the "career" portion the wrong way.
Lots of people reading this blog have seen the Secret. It was on Oprah, right? For a time, I couldn't even deposit a check at the bank or buy food at the grocery without hearing somebody in line talking about it.
I think it was a great movie, but still, I see a bunch of people get the whole concept of it really screwed up. It's more than just "wishing."
James Ray from the Secret DVD is doing a live teleseminar this Tuesday. If you've got a phone, you can call in to talk with James live and in person. On this teleseminar, he'll go into great detail on Law of Attraction and "mindset" type stuff.
I feel this will really help you when it comes to making a living with your music.
What you'll learn:
- How to deal with the "not enough time" excuse once and for all
- How to tap into a limitless source of energy (hint: it's not in the coffee)
- How to blast past obstacles that limit your income levels
- And more...
Click here for everything he's going to talk about.
It's $20. More than fair for this kind of life-changing information.
Definitely check it out. I feel it will help you.
Now, I realize a lot of people think this stuff is total BS. If you do, feel free to post a comment below. Or, if you're like me and feel mindset is a very important part of music business success, feel free to post that too. :)
Wow, this is a cool synchronicity. I am reading his book Harmonic Wealth right now. I just started but my wife told me that it's good, and it's a good fit for me. I have seen the Secret as well, and it was definitely a big step forward in terms of understanding how the world works.
I also agree that there's a lot of bad crap about the whole Law of Attraction thing. It's dumbed down and reduced to some kind of lazy wishful thinking. Of course, THAT doesn't work.

Mindset is important. The chances of getting anything done when you're thinking you're a failure is slim.
You need confidence and drive.
But The Secret says there is a manifest power in the universe that you tap into through the mind to get what you want, and "Everything that comes to you is drawn to you by your thoughts." If that's true, tens of thousands of people must have been thinking about airplanes in New York on Sept. 11.
The hundreds of thousands of persecuted people in Darfur must simply be very negative and the blame is theirs alone because their thoughts are what is responsible for what's happening to them.
Don't take my word for it, The Secret says exactly this.

Steven,
Your comment is one so many people have expressed since the law of attraction became a popular topic.
Keep in mind, the law of attraction was at work within the situations you mention. In order for such powerfully negative things manifest, it starts with an intention by someone. And in many cases several people with the same strong vibration and belief come together to make the seemingly impossible happen. And it's sad that, so often, we create the most life-changing things out of fear or arrogance. Those tragic situations are examples of the law of attraction at its worst. But think of all the times people have come together collectively to create good. And think of those experiences and you'll hear how things seemed to fall into place magically and unfolded in such a strong, meaningful way.
The point is, use the power of intention to make your life--and your career--something incredible rather than expending your energy to create failure for yourself and others.

Here's my take - you can do visualizations and positive thinking all you want, but if you don't BELIEVE that it's going to help you, it won't do a speck of good.
I'm the only member of my band with any kind of interest in the Secret, so I don't push it on the others. But over the last 2 months we've really started truly BELIEVING that we are capable and worthy of being successful musicians...and we've taken giant steps because of it.
BELIEF is a powerful tool. Your mind creates your universe.

It's so encouraging to see so many like minds here! Going to try to make the call Dave, thanks for the post. We (my biz partner/husband and myself) have been members of John Assaraf's OneCoach program for over a year now, and the differences we've made from tackling mindset AND business at the same time are staggering.

I can identify with the idea of creating failure for yourself. It's fear that leads to a self-fulfilling prophesy, creating a mind state that takes little positive action and reinforces the negative. "Failure" is part of progress, as long as we define failure lightly and keep moving forward...
