A comment on my MySpace is Dead - Here's the Proof post made me think of something else which is important to this discussion...
Nobody remembers who won 2nd place.
Think about it.
When it comes to grunge music, people remember Nirvana. Why? They hit first.
Were they the best at this type of music? That's opinion. But when it comes to sales and the amount of money earned, they're at the top.
Sure, there were a few similar-sounding bands who came along after them. But even if they were around before Nirvana, they came off as followers...because Nirvana hit first.
Same for Metallica. They didn't invent the style of music they play...they just hit first.
Do you want to follow or do you want to lead?
In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Bruce Jenner won a Gold Medal in the Decathlon. This lead to endorsements, acting jobs, and a lifelong career.
Who got 2nd place? Can't remember. What happened to him? Nothing.
I could give you example after example, but I think you get the point.
Here's the bottom line. This is important, so listen up...
Just a little bit better than the next guy goes a long way.
Just a little bit quicker at jumping on a new opportunity goes a long way.
Just a little bit is what is going to make the difference between success and failure.
Right now, the time is right for this to happen again and it's going to happen on Twitter. I've already posted examples of what happened to the "first movers" on other online sites. And right now, you have the opportunity to be one of those people.
It doesn't take much work to dominate Twitter. Don't let "just a little bit" keep you from where you want to be.
