Was the gym earlier today and ran into a guy who owns a studio.
It just so happens that I'm in need of a studio.
So we talked for a bit, I'm getting a quote for the job, and we'll most likely do business. A simple five minute conversation that could very likely be worth thousands of dollars to him...and will defintely be worth thousands of dollars for me.
There is a saying in direct marketing which is known as "ABC" or "Always Be Closing." As the owner of a business, and your band or solo career is definitely that, you should be doing the same thing.
You should ALWAYS be looking for opportunity to sell yourself.
Now, I'm not talking about coming off like an Amway salesman and driving everybody you come in contact with crazy, but you should feel confortable with pitching yourself when the time is right. For instance, if somebody mentions that they need a studio, and you've got on, pitch it!
On a related note, it always amazes me how many people don't carry around business cards. You can get 250 free business cards from Vistaprint, so you really have no excuse for that.
Well, I guess I'll take this opportunity then to promote my blog. :) Seriously though, get some great tips on marketing yourself, and your music at my blog, the Business Marketing Tips, Tools, and Ideas Blog, by clicking my name below.
