Last March, I posted Songsharks Get Busted about a company called Talent 2000 and certain business practices which got them featured in Rolling Stone Magazine.

It didn't take long before dozens of bands and musicians emailed or posted comments saying that they had similar experiences. And the same names of who was involved kept popping up...like Courtland Tyler of Jetspeed Records.

Now, I'm pretty much one to live and let live. After all, Carlo sent me death threats for years before I ever did a thing to help get the word out about Talent 2000 and their business practices.

But here I am again, minding my own business, and I can't keep Courtland Tyler of Jetspeed Records from playing games on my blog.

It seems that Courtland Tyler of Jetspeed Records got just a little pissed off when folks started posting comments about him and how he'd taken their bands for thousands of dollars.

So how he comes to my blog almost daily, trying to get me to remove posts... He claims to be the author and that he was "just angry for a moment."

Just wanted to share my experience with JetSpeed Records.

I started my professional music career with Red Galaxy Records, a subsidiary of JetSpeed Records out of Hollywood, CA, in which I was signed in March of 2003.

When I was signed, I was flown out to Hollywood to record my debut CD entitled, "Intensify". As as solo artist, I utilized the skills of Josh Miller, local legend guitarist from Ocean City, MD.

We recorded the entire project at MasterGroove Studios located in North Hills, suburban Los Angeles, CA, in which we worked with an award-winning music production staff led by Gold and Platinum Producer David Morse (Guns and Roses, Incubus, Motley Crue).

The CD sold so well that we were invited to perform in Downtown Disneyland. In addition, our music was featured on MTV Networks' (Spike TV) reality TV series entitled, "Tripped Out" and "10 Things Every Guy Should Experience".

Due to our mammoth success with the first CD, we were signed by JetSpeed Records to record with my entire band project entitled, Nixon Nation. Our band, once again, flew back out to Hollywood to record our debut CD entitled, "13 Songs".

Our CD was just released with a national distribution contract with Tower Records.

We are a band located in Ocean City, MD and our music is featured on their largest station out there entitled, Ocean 98 FM. Their website is located at www.irieradio.com and we will be performing live this coming Friday on their airwaves.

In addition, we are international recording artists at this stage and perform all over the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the entire state of Delaware. We are currently awaiting a contract to feature a song from our solo project entitled, "Little One", to be featured in a Cameron Crowe movie featuring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst, a film that will be released by Paramount Pictures and Sony Dreamworks.

We are slated to kick off our national tour in March of this year.

I got ripped off by Courtland Tyler and Jetspeed. We entered into an agreement in which I would purchase a number of CD's (600, to be exact). Well after paying to fly out there and record (they did pay for the hotel) I haven't seen a sign of my damn CD's. They took my bio (Mr. Sinister) off the website without ever contacting me and won't return any of my calls. Courtland Tyler has $4,000 of my money, and all I have to show for it is an unmixed copy of my CD and a medium Jetspeed t-shirt. I can't even count how many times he blatantly lied to me: "Oh you're song is playing on a radio station out here," of "Oh, we're going to fly you out for a showcase." Give me a break.

If anybody knows how I can possibly get that money back, I'd appreciate it.

Please people give yourselves a break! I have done all the above with Courtland and Jetspeed Records. I personally found no fault in Jetspeed. When you're dealing with Indies you got to have patients. Courtland may not be as fast as Jetspeed, but if you knew what his scheduling,etc. is like you would understand a little more. I felt the same way, but figured why put myself into a stressful situation. Just when I stopped worrying about it, guess who called and said my staff is moving on your cd and in about 5 days you'll receive a mixed copy of your cd and that would be your chance to make any changes. I thought he was putting me on but I waited out the days and guess what? The CD came as promised and from then on I started trusting him. Go to Jetspeedrecords.com and see and hear for yourself what the company is doing. Keep in mind he must deal with his best artist first to make money to spend on the lessor projects. Also remeember some recordings are pure trash and not even some of their own mothers wouldn't purchase them. Courtland and Dave Morse are really nice gentlemen lay back and wait your turn.

I paid Talent 2K 400.00 Dollars a couple years ago in good faith in hopes they would set me up with the right A&R people and all they did was have Jetspeed records call me and try to get me to pay for my own record production. I am glad to see some of this coming out in the open.

The facts people, I represent Nick C Jordan and
he was signed to Jetspeed records, though I never met Tyler and his crew from what I hear they make you pay for your CD and your production costs.
Now this is how a real company aka like capital works. You pay for your pressings aka Bio's and your photo which is a headshot which cost like 80 bucks for a good one, but the band is then fronted a few thousand up front and you are on a pay and play deal where if you don't show progress in six months the label will drop you. If Tyler asked you for money upfront and scammed you I would suggest contacting the Better Business Beareau as this will tell the truth to anyone,. I can't say anything about a guy I never met but I can release nicks Story. Nick was the drummer of the band Elicit on www.jetspeedrecords.com and he told me numerous times how Courtland made him pay for gas, and also his own hotel and the shows he did consisted of a few people and Courtland spend some money promoting him and he got to do one interview on a small radio show in la. It wasn't anything spectacular and the band was not promoted as he had promised. Nick in his own words said it was all a scam and the people just had no clue what they were doing and the recording even sucked. he also stated that many people had been ripped off by Tyler and his Talent 2k company which he also owns Red galaxy Records as well. If he's real he'll give someone a break and give up front money and prove himself and promote them well otherwise well there's always room for another Don lapre..

Our band signed back in 2003, recorded Nov 2003. We STILL don't have CDs to this date. After contract, and shipping on the CDs was paid in full, never heard from him again. He wouldn't return my phone calls, or respond to my emails. Courtland, JetSpeed, and RedGalaxy Records are nothing but crooks. I filed a complaint the other week with the BBB, and he responded, with nothing that had to do with the complaint, trying to shift the focus of blame, etc. And of course, NOW he's willing to send us the CDs, and the master recordings, and wishes us the best of luck? LOL A little too late in my opinion. Ya, we should have paid more attention to the red flags, and done more research, but you know, starving bands don't exactly have money in their back pocket to even afford a lawyer for 5 minutes. He needs to be brought to justic.

Oh, and by the way, we went through Talent 2K, that hooked us up at the last minute with a contract with RedGalaxy / JetSpeed. Interesting that it came in the mail, out of the blue, without ever having met us. That was the first red flag.

*** *** *** *** ** SEVEN THINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER ** *** *** *** ***

1. CRIMINAL LIABILITY: Those of you that were scammed by this company need to be aware that, in addition to the CIVIL liabilities, there may also be CRIMINAL liabilities! Basically, if you have enough records and documentation to make your case, you can get the attention of the Prosecuting Attorney’s office, at JetSpeed Records location! In order to do this, this is part of what you will have to do:
a. Gather up all your records, documents, notes, receipts, payment records, etc. Do you have any phone conversations recorded? If so, since this is a private matter between YOU and another party and at least ONE OF YOU, knows that a recording is being made (you of course,) such a recording may be admissible in a criminal court! (In the least, you can use this to get a news organizations attention, in regards to JetSpeed Records and this Cory Weinberg character!) Make a number of notarized copies (have EACH page copy notarized!) In many cases, a bank you do business with would offer such a service either for no charge at all or at a nominal fee.
b. Try to be calm and ORGANIZE your thoughts! You’ll have much better luck in getting help, if you can effectively articulate your thoughts! Likely, you’ll turn-off folks, if you get too angry and emotional! Turn to a “wiser” family member or someone within your community for help, if you have to.
c. If there’re unique situations; i.e., if you are living below poverty level, having a hard time feeding your family and somehow you begged-and-barrowed the sums to feed JetSpeed Records; be VERY HONEST about your situation, to the prosecuting attorney, news media, etc.! I know of one band, that was scammed by these people and almost all the members were living at-or-below the poverty level! It was an extreme-strain on their families but, they all placed their hopes and trust with this JetSpeed Records company (CORY WEINBERG – a.k.a. Courtland Tyler) and now they are demoralized and depressed beyond description. Literally, this questionable company and its fraudulent owner, has defrauded food from the mouths of a number of very young children and a baby, where this particular band is concerned!
d. CONTACT THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS OFFICE, where JetSpeed Records is based! Also CONTACT YOUR OWN PROSECUTING ATTORNEYS OFFICE! (Provide them with ORGANIZED copies of your documents, records/receipts, etc.) If you’re not sure which Prosecuting Attorney’s office would cover JetSpeed Records location, ask your own Prosecuting Attorney’s office for help in getting in touch with the correct office! If you feel nervous and are not used to dealing with such things, ask someone you trust to accompany you, to provide you help and comfort.
e. Inquire also, if myriad of other laws too, may have been broken! Some of you had to travel clear-across the country to get to JetSpeed Records, in LA and if things were mailed back-and-forth, FEDERAL LAWS TOO, MAY HAVE BEEN BROKEN! If you need help, turn also to the United States Postal Service! They have their own investigators and they will follow-up, if enough folks make formal complaints. Be sure to have a list of items that were mailed to you and it would be especially nice, if you still have the original envelopes, receipts, etc. Likely, the Prosecuting Attorneys office can be of much help, in this matter!

2. GOOGLE: People, you CAN and SHOULD do a Google, etc., searches of this CORY WEINBERG character! For example, in less than 30 seconds, I found this review, listed under the name Cory Weinberg. Here is the review:

There’re similarities in writing-styles, content, etc., between Cory Weinberg’s review and many other reviewers of the same product, on same page. I understand that this character was (or possibly still is) involved in a “music store” venture and could it be that he is “artificially” trying to inflate reviews for this particular product? There were over 60 individual feed-backs for this particular Zager guitar and from my own experiences in writing and evaluating reviews; this does seem like a fairly large number of feedbacks. (If the product in question was a Fender, Gibson, etc., guitar, I could possibly understand the large number of feedbacks but a Zager guitar? I leave it up to you folks to form your own opinions. In the least, view as many feed backs as you can and see if anything stick-out as being duplicative… Those of you with a little time to burn should definitely take this “Google-search” thing a bit further, using the CORY WEINBERG name. Likely he will have many other skeleton’s in his closet(s) and you will be doing others a very big favor (especially if your efforts help keep another fellow musician or other form of artists from being defrauded and burned!) if you can locate additional information!

3. NEWS MEDIA HELP: You can turn to news media, in both JetSpeed Records location, as well as your own location for help. They would likely be interested if you can document your case well; show to them that there’s a clear pattern of abuse; show/illustrate additional fraudulent activities committed in the past by this Cory Weinberg character. It is important for you to be both organized and articulate, in order to present your case effectively! Again, if you or your family has suffered as a result of your losses; then you should well present that fact. Think newspapers, think television stations and certainly try and communicate with a variety of magazine and news editors.

4. CRIMINAL HISTORY: A few posters here claimed to know this Cory Weinberg character (in affiliation with a music store) from other ventures and if a clear criminal history can be documented/established; this too, will help your case and arguments. Please ensure that sources can be relied upon. Follow-up such histories to extremes-possible, to ensure that sources are credible and reliable! If you’re fed “bogus” information, from questionable sources and you’re unable to verify, when the time comes; at best, your credibility suffers and at worse, you can be held liable! So, don’t just take “hear-say” as being written in stone!

5. YOUR MUSICAL CAREERS: Folks, while a few “lucky” people succeed in fairly quick and painless ways (“lucky” probably translates as knowing the right people and having the right connections!) most others have to toil hard, in a parched, arid terrain! I’m not trying to “wax-poetic” but am being realistic! The world is full of predators of all sorts. There’re even people that would steal water from the lips of a dying child and unfortunately, this is the state of affairs, of our world today! So, what can you do about it? Simple, be prepared and arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can… Don’t be quick to trust an entity or person, you’ve never met before, half-a-world away from you! Take responsibility for your own career to utmost degree! Times have changed and you no longer have to be victim to frauds or be a slave to anyone! Learn as much as you can about recording/mixing your own work, publishing your own work, marketing and distributing your own work! You’ll save lots of money, in the least! The things you can’t manage to do on your own; you can outsource to a reputable company with a clean and established record! For example, there’re many companies that will “master” your work and they will even offer you, “retail-ready” cd’s (and even dvd’s!) for fairly reasonable sums! By the way, retail-ready means that the cd’s will be pressed (music content,) labeled (cd surface impressed with graphics and/or content listing,) given printed insert and cover (covers would have your own art-work imprinted or you can pay the company extra, to come-up with artwork for you,) placed inside jewel cases and sealed via cela wrap or shrink wrapping. You do NOT need to turn to companies such as JetSpeed Record and be victimized… You’ve already committed with your music, now you just have to follow-it all up, with a little extra work… By the way, you can turn to a local bookstore to get suggestions/sampling of such titles, in print, to help you get started, well on your way. You can of course, also find such titles online as well.

6. PRIOR TO DOING BUSINESS WITH A COMPANY OR INDIVIDUAL: Again, check the background/track record of entity and/or person you will be doing business with, prior to entrusting it/him/her with your hard-earned money! For example, why not check with the Better Business Bureau, where this entity and/or person does business! After all, MANY of you, who lost THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, to JetSpeed Records, Cory Weinberg (a.k.a. Such posts seriously erode any and all CREDIBILITY on the part of their originators! Look, if you succeed in sounding like a psychotic person, most people will ignore you as being “disturbed.” We’re all musicians and we should manage to do much better than such behavior. I can understand the anger of being defrauded and taken in, by a shyster! Yet, one has to use “reason” and “control,” dealing with such situations. If you make criminal threats (i.e., threatening to hurt someone physically, threatening them with mortal harm, etc.) you are criminally liable for your threats and can be prosecuted, in accordance with the laws of your country, region, etc. If anything, you’re just giving this crook, the satisfaction of knowing that he has gotten to you, in so many ways! The way to get to such fraudulent persons is ALWAYS via legal means! Also, if you can show enough clear, verifiable evidence to harm their reputation (or likely, what is left of their reputations,) that is even better! If you would actually consider mortally harming such a person; well then, at least in my eyes, you would be far worse than this bottom-feeding, fraudulent blood-sucking shyster! RELAX! Take a deep breath! You’ve already been scammed and don’t make matters worse by leaving yourself liable to criminal prosecution by delving in such silly flights of thought and fancy! Again, be WELL ORGANIZED, document everything and go from there! POST WELL THOUGHT-OUT AND REASONED POSTS TO MAKE YOUR CASE! IN CLOSING: This guy will eventually get what is coming to him and there’re also the spiritual aspects to consider! From a psychological perspective, this shyster is a LOSER, a FRAUD and a low-and-base CRIMINAL! He knows these facts, in his heart and even if he manages to escape prosecution, jail/prison, etc., he can not escape from himself! Have the wisdom to turn to your priest, rabbi, preacher or psychiatrist for guidance and know that many troubles in life likely await you, as result of your choices-made in life. They are using the name Cynthia Taylor and 426 wilcox street in Hollywood as the drop site, and the Feds are on it. If anyone has more details on this scumbag post them here. Their take is at 10,000$ and there are twenty victims in fifteen states. Also contact the FBI and US Postal Inspectors, both are pursuing leads. Patrick Bailey's father is an attorney and will probably threaten legal action. He is involved with the record company and ebay fraud as well.

Courtland used the once again brilliant lying tactics to defuse more fraud postings about him and his labels jetspeed and red galaxy. Ever heard any real big stars on that label? Look at his ight the same old non working acts are still on the site. In fact Ken Daniels has since moved on to bigger and better things and is not apart of jetspeed records. I should have known better too. My story is almost a carbon copy of everyone else's only with a little more "fun" attached to it.

I paid Courtland almost $10k over the two to three years I thought he was doing something for it.

I found it strange when he would call me in a panic on a Saturday afternoon to tell me I needed to wire him another $200 right away. What does a label who I just sent thousands to need me to send them $200 for?

To make matters worse, his studio guy, Dave Morse, was moving to Nashville so I decided to move my studio to LA so I could produce records for Jetspeed. Courtland was supposed to have a house or apatment reserved for us but it never happened. I spent over $5,000 on hotels and parking over a period of 2 to 3 months before I found a place on our own. Then Courtland would talk about the equipment he had in storage or would purchase for the studio. He told me he had this amazing board for my protools studio. None of this ever happened.

He sent this $400 board that wasn't ProTools compatible and it had a fan that was as loud as an airplane. He only got me that board because there was a band from Vegas coming to record. He “owed” them so they were to come and record in my studio for a discounted rate, pay me directly, then we’d be done. The project was pretty rough without the right gear, but we made the best of it and the band seemed to have a good time. That is the only job Courtland even came through on. He booked 4 other bands over 2 months and none of them ever showed. I don’t think he even told these bands they were coming to record with me. Nothing ever came of it. In fact, the failure to follow through from Jetspeed forced me to have to move out of the house I had spend several months building the studio in (at my own expense). I counted on the money that Courtland assured me was coming from his bands.

On another note, Courtland told me he would pay me $200 per week to fix and maintain his web site. I spent over a thousand hours on his site and never saw a dime for it.

The last straw was when he wanted to use my PayPal account to sell coins on Ebay. (At the time, I was unaware that he couldn't get his own PayPal account because he screwed it up already.) It seemed harmless enough, especially if I was going to be paid, finally as a result of his new revenue stream. Over the next couple months he paid me about $1,000 while he made over $10k. The only problem is when people started to complain, he left me holding the bag. PayPal cancelled my account when Courtland posted PS3s that he didn't even own yet. To this day I can't open a paypal account.

He is pathological. Even with people he allows to get closer to him. He will simply use and use and use them until they finally see the light and leave him behind. People like Dave Morse, Martin Brown and others who used to speak up on his behalf finally became tired of his B.S. and just moved away. They stopped speaking up for him. They watched their friends get burned by him, one after the other and couldn’t take it anymore. I remember one of these people sharing with me that they had to rebuke Courtland because one of his own staff couldn’t pay her rent because he owed her money for her paycheck and Courtland couldn’t pay it.

The problem is that in this industry there will always be another sucker. He only needs a dozen or so at any given time to keep him going (and you can always see who that dozen are by looking at his web site). Based on how he has operated with so many others, including myself, I’m certain his current clients paid him $5k to $6k in the hopes that he would do something for them as well.

He can’t help himself. He would call me out of the blue saying my song was being played on the radio “right now”. The problem is I never got a check from BMI nor was there ever any proof that this was the case. He would get me out of bed to write and produce songs for him ON SPEC. I would send him MP3s for what? Again, I never saw anything come of it. He would call to tell me that my song was going to be on some Cable TV show. My folks subscribed to that channel specifically to hear my song, but it never played. Then Courtland would tell me that the artwork for my new CD was going to be in Billboard magazine. I would tell my family and they bought 2 or 3 months of Billboard. My own Grandmother picked up a magazine, but do you thing she saw my product there?

When I specifically questioned Courtland about the money I paid him, where it went and what would become of what he promised, he simply said “I was sick back then. You can’t hold that against me.” Like I was just going to live without that money and forgive the debt. He is pathological. I just don’t know how he gets away with it.

For 7 or 8 months he gave me a phone on his Verizon account and to him, that is supposed to make up for the thousands of dollars I gave him. He has a funny way of comparing the value of his contribution to the hell he puts you through. When I was setting up my studio, he took me shopping for a set of “studio monitors”. I wound up with a $100 pair of radio shack bookcase speakers.

I wish I didn’t but there are nights that I lie in bed and can’t sleep because of all that he cost me. I wish I could be around when he finally gets his Karma.

The guy pretty much destroyed my faith in people. My faith and enthusiasm in the music business is all but gone. I started my own music production company after much of my own blood sweat and tears. I just finished producing my second project and I’m proud of what I do. I offer Indi artists a chance to make their songs sound really professional at a very reasonable cost. I can’t even make a living off it but I enjoy helping people and staying close to the music scene.

Courtland doesn't have any offices or studios. I'm not saying he has any questionable habits but he was always broke and always claimed to have a "sinus infection". He had me drive him to a casino once, where he gave me $100 and I watched blow through $10k in 2 hours.

I tried hard to be his friend but he screwed me over too many times.

BTW - I never saw my CDs (that I paid my own money to produce in my own studios) on any shelves, there was never any air play and I was never offered even a partial refund. I wish there could be some justice for what sounds like a lot of us who got screwed by him.

Fake names used by this group include Wendi Taylor, Cynthia Taylor, Quenton Taylor, A Alex, Winn and Fields Law firm. One of these fraudsters has a young male child named Daniel, who once answered the 310-487-4349 number. Courtland Tyler is also believed to be a fake name. he has a partner named Patrick Bailey, who could be the son of aviation law attorney Patrick Bailey. If the previous poster knows anything about Courtland Tyler and his thefts of coins on ebay, he should contact the FBI immediately. There is a very good chance the coins you sold on Ebay were the same ones he stole from others.
