"Act like it's important, but realize that it's not." That's what I tell my clients.
I have seen people get so worked up over the smallest things that it's hard to believe that they aren't dead yet. If nobody is killed or injured, it's not really a big deal.
Take a moment or two each day to spend about 10 or 15 minutes without distractions and just breathe. Don't worry about the grocery list, the rehearsal this afternoon, or the long drive you'll be making this weekend to hit your gig. That stuff will all be there when you're done.
And a note about drugs... More and more people MUST have some kind of "help" to relax. If that's you, you've got a problem.
I'm not going to get into the morality of drug use here because it doesn't matter to me one way or another what you do on your own time. If you must have something to accomplish something else though, you've got a dependency.
Like Ron Jeremy said about Viagra, "Once you start taking it, I'd imagine you come to rely on it."
